3 takeaways about life from painting at BergerXP

Life and painting go hand in hand.

“If you could say it in words. there would be no reason to paint.”

When Edward Hopper said these words, he sounded like a man brimming with life experiences. Indeed, in many ways, painting can therapeutic and meditative in nature. The very act of balancing the colors, the tools and the precision of applying the paint brings all of our thoughts and actions into perspective. The recently concluded Berger Express Painting event held at Vivanta by Taj gave a lot of perspective in this aspect.

So, let’s get straight into the 3 key takeaways from the Berger XP event.

1. Finding yourself in life

The process of painting involves a lot around knowing oneself. Just like any other action/phase in our lives, one must understand one’s own interests and choices. When it comes to paint and colors, if the color doesn’t suit you aesthetically as well as mentally, you can never find peace in it. As a result of this, the process of knowing oneself must precede all other actions and activities. Sometimes one knows exactly what one wants whereas at other times, one needs to go through several iterations to arrive at the knowledge of oneself. This journey is crucial. The patterns, the texture, the shade, the look and so on are crucial for getting a good paint. Once you know yourself inside out, the painting process becomes even more simpler. Getting to know yourself also leads you to become

“Faster, cleaner, better”

2. Getting your hands dirty

Let’s be very clear about this point. You have to get your hands dirty if you want something exceptional and exemplary to come out of it. There are no two ways to this. Getting your hands dirty is the key to developing a skill, art or expertise. This ensures that the theory which you have read finds the appropriate application in the physical world. This is one of the main reasons why we always had separate theoretical and practical classes during our school days.

3. Knowing how to mix

If you have ever cooked food, made tea, attended chemistry lab or went to a new place (new school, office or party place), then you’ll agree with me on this. It takes a really long time to learn how to mix well. Mixing is not just restricted to two substances, even two people need to make the right mix. This is perhaps the most significant takeaway, as it is this skill which determines the strength and intensity of the paint. Just like paint, the method of mixing also determines the outcome of a relation between two persons. When everything goes well and the mixing takes place smoothly, all the synergies of the entire system are harnessed to its full potential.

Berger Express Painting gave me a lot of valuable insights into life. Not just that, it also helped me in finding an easy solution to all my painting woes.
